Auditor General Tabled the Fraud and Waste Hotline Annual Report, her 2022 Annual Report and the Semi-Annual Report on Follow-Up Procedures

Ottawa – Today, Auditor General Nathalie Gougeon tabled the Fraud and Waste Hotline Annual Report, her 2022 Annual report and the Semi-Annual Report on Follow-Up Procedures.

The Fraud and Waste Hotline received a total of 1,397 cases in 2022, a 143% increase from the prior year, which includes a significant increase in similar cases. “This increase represented a significant impact on our resources throughout the year. Furthermore, it continues to demonstrate that employees and members of the public view the hotline as a safe and trusted mechanism to bring forward their concerns”, said Mme Gougeon.​

As part of the 2022 Annual Report, the Auditor General highlighted the Office of the Auditor General's (OAG) achievements in 2022. Among the several accomplishments noted, was the creation of a Twitter account, the design of a logo for the OAG as well as the design and launch of a stand-alone website. ‘’We worked hard towards these initiatives in an effort to continue to improve communication with our stakeholders and help increase awareness about the role and work of the OAG, and to raise awareness of the Fraud and Waste Hotline’’, explained Mme Gougeon.

Mme Gougeon also tabled a Semi-Annual Report on Follow-up Procedures. Since the last report to Audit Committee in June 2022, the OAG reviewed 86 recommendations, of which 81 have been closed. In her report, the Auditor General indicated that there are outstanding recommendations that are of higher risk that management has yet to address, and that the OAG will continue to work with management to ensure appropriate and timely resolution.
