Ottawa – Today, Auditor General Nathalie Gougeon tabled the 2023 Report on the Fraud and Waste Hotline, her 2023 Annual Report and the Semi-Annual Report on Follow-Up Procedures.

The Fraud and Waste Hotline received a total of 282 cases in 2023, representing a 34% increase from the prior year.  New this year, the report outlines the number of allegations received and the breakdown of reports by department.

The Auditor General presented her 2023 Annual Report, the third annual report of her mandate. In it, she outlines the work completed by the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) in 2023, including reports issued, key performance measures and her team’s contribution to the audit community throughout the year. The report highlights the results of surveys obtained from audit clients and Members of Council, both showing a high level of satisfaction in the OAG’s performance in 2023.

Mme Gougeon also tabled a Semi-Annual Report on Follow-up Procedures. Since the last report to Audit Committee in June 2023, the OAG reviewed 97 recommendations, of which 95 have been closed. In her report, the Auditor General indicated that there are outstanding recommendations that are of higher risk that management has yet to address, and that the OAG will continue to work with management to ensure appropriate and timely resolution.
